spell check is not working...how do I turn it on? (MS Word 2013)

I just upgraded to a full version of MS Office 2013. I am using Word and notice two things. One, it is not auto-correcting misspelled words as I type, and two, when I go to the "Review" tab and select "Spelling and Grammar" to do a spell check, it says "Spelling and grammar complete. You're good to go!" This is not correct. 

I've gone to the Options menu. Autocorrect is turned on. Nothing else seems to make logical sense to me.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone help? I NEED my spell check.

PS. My OS is Win7, 64-bit and I'm using Office 2013.

    Before you select Review>Language>Set proofing language, and uncheck the "do not check spelling or grammar", you must highlight all content first.

    Hi All

    I tried all the suggestions in this forum as well as those in Mastering the Spelling Checker but no luck.The final step I tried was deleting the registry entry and rebooting my PC.

    I am running Windows 7/Office 365/Word 2016.

    I welcome any other suggestions. TIA

    EASY FIX: This problem of no Spelling/Grammar check happened to me after installing another Language pack.

    In Word 2013:

    1. Under the tab: REVIEW, click to highlight LANGUAGE icon
    2. In the drop-down,  click: "SET PROOFING LANGUAGE"
    3. Scroll down the list of languages to: ENGLISH UNITED STATES
    4. Highlight this choice.
    5. At bottom, click  "SET TO DEFAULT"  

      -------- PS: Ensure there is still no check mark in "Do not Check Spelling and Grammar.

    1. Click OK   
    2. DONE, You should immediately see your spelling and grammar mistakes get underlined.
