spell check is not working...how do I turn it on? (MS Word 2013)

I just upgraded to a full version of MS Office 2013. I am using Word and notice two things. One, it is not auto-correcting misspelled words as I type, and two, when I go to the "Review" tab and select "Spelling and Grammar" to do a spell check, it says "Spelling and grammar complete. You're good to go!" This is not correct.

I've gone to the Options menu. Autocorrect is turned on. Nothing else seems to make logical sense to me.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone help? I NEED my spell check.

Thank you

PS. My OS is Win7, 64-bit and I'm using Office 2013.

I have done the above routine---in my MS word 2013, "don't check spelling and grammar " gets re-checked every time I uncheck it and restart word.. unable to fix it!

My check box beside "do not check spelling or grammar" was not checked however by re selecting the language and setting as default, cured my problem across all products within Office 2013.

My spell check is not working and I tried this. The "do not check spelling or grammar" was already unchecked.

Is this true if you select the entire document first? (Ctrl+A)

Try typing a word that should show up as misspelled. If it does not get the red underline, select it and look at the proofing language. This setting is for a specific word (or even character), not for the document.
