spell check is not working...how do I turn it on? (MS Word 2013)

I just upgraded to a full version of MS Office 2013. I am using Word and notice two things. One, it is not auto-correcting misspelled words as I type, and two, when I go to the "Review" tab and select "Spelling and Grammar" to do a spell check, it says "Spelling and grammar complete. You're good to go!" This is not correct.

I've gone to the Options menu. Autocorrect is turned on. Nothing else seems to make logical sense to me.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can someone help? I NEED my spell check.

Thank you

PS. My OS is Win7, 64-bit and I'm using Office 2013.

I just figured it out. In Word 2013, select the review tab, click "language". select "set proofing language" then uncheck the first box at the bottom of the box that says "do not check spelling or grammar." that will fix your problem!

Can anyone answer this without a link?  last time I used one of those I had a malicious attack attempt.  Do not want to take a chance.

You selected the entire document (with Ctrl+A or by some other method) and made sure that the "Do not check spelling and grammar" box was completely clear--not shaded?

I had this problem in 2007. The answer was in the language setting where there is a check-box for "do not check spelling or grammar". Uncheck and set as default. I don't remember changing it in the first place. On mine the language is located at the bottom of the screen. I tried to paste a screen print but it seems that is not permitted.

I don't have the newer version, but my daughter's laptop does and I think it's a check-box under the "review" tab then "language".

Let me know if this helps.
