excel 2013 can't open old files

I got windows office 2013 and installed it on my windows 7 laptop. I have old office 2007 excel files that I can't open, and some that will only open when I go through the program and search for them. After loading some files I tried to save them in the new format. But even after that I can't open the file. I tried coping and pasting the info, again with no sucess. what can I do to fix this.

In addition to the above, I had to add the location of the file as a trusted location to get Excel to open it.

I found out that if you try to open an older Excel file with the 64 bit version it will fail. It will give you the message the file is corrupt or damaged.

The solution is to open it with the 32 bit version, save it as the latest file and then open it on the 64 bit version.

Very well possible. I have been going back from 64 to 32 because integrations with another application only worked with 32 bit. But I wish there would be another solution. De-install 32, install 64 and then save all the files again. Then de-install 64 and install 32 again. Phfff.

File->Options->Trust Center->Trust Center Settings

Protected View-> Uncheck the 3 options

File Block Options -> Check "Legacy Converters for Excel" (second to last checkbox)
