I got windows office 2013 and installed it on my windows 7 laptop. I have old office 2007 excel files that I can't open, and some that will only open when I go through the program and search for them. After loading some files I tried to save them in the new format. But even after that I can't open the file. I tried coping and pasting the info, again with no sucess. what can I do to fix this.

This worked!!! But now I have to do it for every file that is in the older format. This started for me after I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Must be some new security thing. More protection than I wanted.
For some reason I had both Office 2010 and 2013 installed. iCloud wouldn't work so I uninstalled 2010; then (only) Excel wouldn't open files on double-click. Shortcuts to Excel files stopped working. Excel icons changed. The fix was the Quick Repair

I have been getting the same "file is corrupted" message, and none of the information here helped.
I was looking around and found something that worked without a bunch of weird steps.
Right click on the file, and click on properties.
at the bottom of the General tab. There is a security notice.
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer."
Click the Unblock button, then click apply.
File now opens without an error.

I am also experiencing a problem opening older excel files with Excel 2013.
I have installed Office 2013 64bit on Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
Every file from older versions that I open with either Word or Excel gives me an error message "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened".
It is NOT a problem with default program association. It is also NOT a problem with the file itself.
The file opens up perfectly with Office 2010 I have on another computer.
With Word 2013 I found a way to open files by Right Click and use Edit option instead of Open.
This opens up the files and I can save them in 2013 format.
Excel does not provide Edit option, hence every time i try to open the file it fails.
If anyone has any ideas, i will appreciate if you shared them with me.

Of course not. It is a Windows program or, in other words a manufacturer poduced virus. Same as with most of MS ****.
