I got windows office 2013 and installed it on my windows 7 laptop. I have old office 2007 excel files that I can't open, and some that will only open when I go through the program and search for them. After loading some files I tried to save them in the new format. But even after that I can't open the file. I tried coping and pasting the info, again with no sucess. what can I do to fix this.

I found out that if you try to open an older Excel file with the 64 bit version it will fail. It will give you the message the file is corrupt or damaged.
The solution is to open it with the 32 bit version, save it as the latest file and then open it on the 64 bit version.

In addition to the above, I had to add the location of the file as a trusted location to get Excel to open it.

To solve this issue you need to open office 2013 en go to the following
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Protected View
Then disable all option.. click OK..
exit office and open the file you want to open

This process above allows me to open the file, but it only stays open for 5 secs and then goes blank and not responding.
I am not understanding... These are files I created in an earlier version of XL not files I downloaded.
I would be more than happy to try your fix if I knew how to change to change my setting from
protected view
