excel 2013 can't open old files

I found out a way to open the files, but unfortunately not directly from the Outlook.

Here are the steps that i performed to open word and excel files:

1. Right click on the file name
2. Click Properties
3. In the tab General look at the very bottom, below the Attributes it displays:

   Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.

Next to the text there is a button Unblock

4. Click Unblock, then Apply, and OK
5. Open the file regularly.

Did you uncheck the option ‘**Run this program in compatibility’**mode for Word?

 

If not, uncheck the option and let us know how it works.

 

Also uncheck the same option for Excel application as well and verify the status.

I finally had to call Microsoft and pay $150 for "extra support" to get it fixed. They accessed my computer changed some settings and fixed the problem. Only temporarily!!  With the latest windows update I now have the same issue again!!!

I have found that if I uninstall the old 2007 Windows office version which was on my pc and then uninstall and reinstall the new office 365 it works perfectly OK with no errors . I was told it shouldn't matter if both versions are installed on your pc, clearly this wasn't the case for me.

I am experiencing a very similar problem as the ones shown here except I have just installed Windows 365 today and all my files have now migrated across to 2013, I can't open any of them whether it be Excel, Word, Outlook - the whole package.

When I click on a file in any of the Office products I get an error message saying that "Microsoft Excel has stopped working windows is trying to find a solution" and then it just closes down. This happens whenever I try to load up the software.

Can you help? Do you think there has been an issue with the installation of the new Microsoft Office 365? It works perfectly OK on my HTC One!

I have the same issue as described above. I am able to use Excel 2013 (not Office 365) with newly created files. But, Excel will stop to work with message "Microsoft Excel has stopped working windows is trying to find a solution" as I open a XLS file with Excel 97-2003 format (by Excel menu "Open file" or by file association in Explorer).

I work with Office 2013 64-bit Version on Windows 8.1 64-bit Version.

I hope, there will be found a solution as soon as possible.

I have done all the possible steps and troubleshooting

file association steps are irrelevant (although I did follow them) because the association is correctly set.

Out IT has looked into it and their verdict that it is a MS bug and we can only wait for the fix from MS
