Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.
This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.

That looks like a good place to start.
Just one more example of Microsoft dumbing down their products to the lowest common denominator. Of course when they fully succeed there won't be any reason for business and professional users to pay for it vs using one of the free common-denominator word processors on the market. But MS probably won't get that until it's too late to save Word. When you add up all the computer-saavy people staying with Windows 7 (or XP) and Office 2010 (or 2003), I wonder where their sales are coming from.

Perhaps you don't understand this complaint. It is not the resume reading bookmark that delays our work, it is the bubble that come up and stops all activity. I've used Word for years. It once had a Shift-F5 feature that would let you return to where you were working when you closed a file. When MS removed that from later versions, I created a macro to create a bookmark when I closed a file, and one to take me to that place when I opened it. So I welcome the book, as well as the return of the Shift-F5 feature. But the bubble is counterproductive as well as annoying. By habit when I open one of my Word files I hit Ctrl-F to search for the part of the file I want. That no longer works. I created a Ctrl-F macro, but I keep hitting it until the bubble goes away. If I click on the file, if often selects some text, and the search is then within that selection. I would like to keep the bookmark but send the bubble into a black hole. I'm accustomed to editing the registry, but the "fixes" I've read seem to disable the bookmark, not just the bubble.
Can you or anyone explain how to disable the bubble alone?
