Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.
This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locations
That looks like a good place to start.
I actually hope there is an option that word directly opens where I left off without any clicking. I often edit word document >200 pages. Clicking the pop-up every time is quite annoying for me......
I agree completely. The feature could be useful if it worked better and if you were allowed to turn it off.

I don't think the "pick up where you left off" is a totally bad idea--just poorly implemented. Like others have said, I frequently open a document and head straight to ctrl-F. I don't care if a welcome back notice appears that I might have the option to click on. But it shouldn't be modal and get the focus, it should have to be clicked on and if any thing else is done, it should immediately go away. That's all.
P.S.: does anyone at MS read this forum. It would be time and money well spent. Many companies pay close attention to forums like this. Sure there's some flaming that can be ignored, but the useful feedback and ideas presented are well worth the effort. I can't believe this discussion has gone on for three years and they haven't addressed it.
