Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.
This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locations

I'm running Win7 - Once I get to Reading Locations, I get a bit confused! At Reading Locations, do I right click on it or each of the document items below it? And once I get to the right permissions item, what do I do then. A bit more details would be helpful. Under Reading Locations, I have about 12 document items.

I haven't experimented with this myself, but the dialog box suggests that you should click the "Deny" box for "Full Control." If you haven't edited the registry much before, you may want to back it up before attempting this.
In the Registry Editor, have you located the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locations key? You'll find the subkeys in the pane on the left.
To set permissions on the key mentioned above, right-click and choose Permissions on the context menu.
In almost 20 years using Word this is one of the most annoying "features" I've come across. I've tried to follow the steps here, until I get to the Permissions box. However, from there I don't understand how to "making the appropriate registry key(s) read-only". This dialog box is where I'm at... Can you guide me through please?
