Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

Thanks!

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.

This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Reading Locations

That looks like a good place to start.

I am desperate to disable "Welcome back pick up where you left off". This feature means I cannot search Word files without pressing the search shortcut three times before it responds. I am a researcher and do scores of searches through my files of notes every day. My RSI has recurred as a result.

It does appear that you have to wait for the Welcome Back prompt to "collapse" to ![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/42c5d25d-8224-4cc9-9dc2-0a761a7e54c4?platform=QnA) before Word responds properly. I hadn't noticed.

For now, all you can do is lock down the registry entry as discussed earlier in this thread. (You need a version of Windows that supports it.)

You should post to http://word.uservoice.com and suggest that an option is introduced that lets us disable Welcome Back in the user interface.

One wonders why someone would suggest a solution -- 'unselect "Keep Track of Formatting"' -- that obviously does not work, that one did not test, and that exposes one's ignorance.
