Have any of you figured out how to turn this "Welcome back, pick up where you left off" bookmark thing? I've gone through all the options and add-ins I can find, and I can't make it stop doing this.

On the same track I deleted all the subkeys under 'Reading Locations' and then made the 'Reading Locations' key read-only to everyone.
This has stopped Word writing to the key and I no longer get the message when I re-open a document.

That looks like a good place to start.
One wonders why someone would suggest a solution -- 'unselect "Keep Track of Formatting"' -- that obviously does not work, that one did not test, and that exposes one's ignorance.
You can turn off the feature in the Advanced Options. Under the "Editing Options", unselect "Keep Track of Formatting". That will disable the feature until you choose to turn it back on.
Here's another vote for "Hate this feature". It's just plain annoying. I didn't ask for it, I don't want it, and there should definitely be an option to turn it off.
