I am finding Publisher 2013 unbelievably slow, so slow as to be unworkable.

I have a new laptop and it handles all programs well including Photoshop but Publisher 2013 is extremely slow.  Even highlighting text can take over a second.  Earlier versions of Publisher are fine.  Can anyone suggest a cause and a solution?

Perhaps uncheck the "use Office to sync files faster..." setting in SkyDrive.

[Edit] After posting the above, I ran across another possible fix:

In Publisher go to File > Options > Advanced and check 'disable hardware graphics acceleration'.

I also had this problem.  I didn't when I first installed Publisher, but after about a week it became so slow it was driving me crazy!  I tried all the options that were listed in this forum, and none of them helped.  I finally just ended up uninstalling Microsoft Skydrive all together - I wasn't using it anyway - and bam!  Problem fixed! Publisher now runs great!

I was struggling with the same slow unusable situation with Publisher 2013.    I dropped back to Publisher 2010.  I do not have the time nor would I expect to fuss around trying all these patches/delete patches/updates.

........editing earlier post.

I have pretty good efficiency editing a 68.9MB pub doc in Pub2010 but it was too big to save as jpg or pdf or anything other than .pub.   Switching back to 2013 I was able to create a  9.7MB pdf but still could not export a jpg.

    I am also interested in any insights PA Bear might have in the 'sluggish Publisher 2013' issue, and look forward to his response, especially how McAfe can 'slow down' an Office program.

    In the meantime try disabling McAfee temporarily and see if that makes any difference. I must admit that I have avoided McAfee and Norton products in the past because they have not played well with Office and other products and have been such resource hogs.

    Thank you again for all of your help.

    1. Not sure what the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool is or how to use it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    2. I have learned in the past year not to use Registry Cleaners. However, I must say that all of the keys that I've ever removed were remnants of programs and applications that no longer existed and had no "sister" programs loaded. I.E. I have had several Adobe products installed, removed, updated, etc. over the years. I do not remove any registry keys marked "Adobe". In fact I've only removed registry keys related to programs that were perhaps trial freeware or drivers no longer in use.

    Also, I believe I have all of the registry backups from what I removed, however I would be quite reluctant to add these keys back to the registry especially considering that most of the keys correspond with software that was uninstalled.

    Bottom line: do you have any other recommendations for correcting this issue. Reloading the OS and all my programs, applications and customizations is not really an option. The last time I did that was about 5 years ago and it took over 60 hours to re-install and re-customize my machine.

    So suggestions for next steps? Not sure if you're saying i need to do something with McAfee or if you're saying that I should restore ALL of my registry removal backups.

    Other ideas?
