I am finding Publisher 2013 unbelievably slow, so slow as to be unworkable.

I have a new laptop and it handles all programs well including Photoshop but Publisher 2013 is extremely slow.  Even highlighting text can take over a second.  Earlier versions of Publisher are fine.  Can anyone suggest a cause and a solution?

Perhaps uncheck the "use Office to sync files faster..." setting in SkyDrive.

[Edit] After posting the above, I ran across another possible fix:

In Publisher go to File > Options > Advanced and check 'disable hardware graphics acceleration'.

I also had this problem.  I didn't when I first installed Publisher, but after about a week it became so slow it was driving me crazy!  I tried all the options that were listed in this forum, and none of them helped.  I finally just ended up uninstalling Microsoft Skydrive all together - I wasn't using it anyway - and bam!  Problem fixed! Publisher now runs great!

I was struggling with the same slow unusable situation with Publisher 2013.    I dropped back to Publisher 2010.  I do not have the time nor would I expect to fuss around trying all these patches/delete patches/updates.

........editing earlier post.

I have pretty good efficiency editing a 68.9MB pub doc in Pub2010 but it was too big to save as jpg or pdf or anything other than .pub.   Switching back to 2013 I was able to create a  9.7MB pdf but still could not export a jpg.

    I should have better stated my comments regarding MVPs to indicate this appears to be a shortcoming on the part of Microsoft. It would seem ideal if Microsoft would provide a means for MVPs to bring issues such as these to the attention of the group(s) responsible for addressing issues and creating fixes. I would think it would behoove Microsoft to see threads such as this, to understand that there is still an issue in addition to those corrected by previous fixes. This is indeed the type of thing that leads me to look to other products from companies such as Serif that provide competent software at a reasonable price.

    Can you imagine how frustrating it is to spend nearly 5 hours creating a project in Publisher that should have taken 30 minutes otherwise? I tried using several of my other programs such as Word and PowerPoint to do the same since they have some rudimentary capabilities of creating output similar to what I'm attempting to achieve, however they both lack on or two key capabilities. My next option is to use one of my PDF editors (not Acrobat) or one of my CAD programs. They might take me a bit of time, but at least I know they don't have performance issues.

    I hope this doesn't come off as too defensive, but note that MSFT is aware of this problem and has issued a patch(s) that helps some people. See the posts by Debbie on page 5 of this thread. It is rare that someone from MSFT joins in this forum.

    I wish that as a MVP I had the power to influence the Publisher program team, but that power does not come with the designation. I do not work for MSFT and am just a user like you...just more active in this forum. I also experience the same if not more frustration with how Publisher 2013 works as you do. This 'slow' problem is just one of the complaints about this version of Publisher. Luckily I don't have this particular problem with my installation of Publisher 2013, plus I have other versions I can use for my production work.

    Sorry if the compiled suggestions through this message thread that have helped others 'fix' their problem with Publisher have not worked for you. If you find a solution that works for your computer setup, then please post back and let us know. Good luck.
