Excel doesn't open window in size last closed

In Excel 2007 when I opened a new sheet it opened in a window that was the same size and in same position as the last window I closed. In Excel 2013 every time each new sheet is opened in a small window positioned in the lower left quadrant. I open multiple windows a day and having to resize each one is very time consuming.

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for posting the question.

Excel usually remembers the size and the position of the last opened Excel file.

Let’s re-size the Excel window and verify the result

Open Excel and click on restore button which appears upper right corner of the screen between x(close) and _ (minimize) buttons.
Now drag the double ended arrow which appears in the corner and re-size accordingly.
You may also move it by dragging it by the title bar, now close and re-open Excel and verify the result.

I just switched to MS Office 2013 (forced to because of a new work laptop that had MS Office 2013 installed).

I had this issue (Excel file opening in a half window) with some, but not all of my existing files.

I was able to fix this for all of my windows that opened in a "half window", by clicking on "New Window" in the "View" tab, and then saving the workbook. When I re-opened, the issue was gone. I have no idea why this works, and it seems counter-intuitive to click "New Window" to get an existing window out of a "half-window" display. All I know is that it fixed my problem files (about a dozen). I hope this works for others as well.

This problem is incredibly frustrating, given that there was no problem with the earlier versions, and yet the problem seems intractable to Microsoft.

Specifically, with respect to the issue of newly-opened spreadsheets coming up in a window not with the size that they were saved, but with the size of the currently active window:

1. I does seems that Word behaves the same way. It is less of a frustration since I usually expect Word documents to use the same-size window.

2. I went through the process of disabling 2 com-in add-ons as prescribed by the post. All 3 add-ons are now disabled.

The problem persists.

Hopefully this information will help resolve this really annoying thing.

It doesn't work when you opened more than one excel window. The first window is opened well on the same position as leaved, but the second is opened always cca 40px below. It is similar as cascade opening in Windows 3.1. This is unpleasant because I am used to close window by clicking to the close button in the most righ-up corner on the screen. I always close the unwanted window.

This is exactly the same problem I have, except I'm using Windows 8.

"I am running Excel 2013 on Windows 7. When I open a sheet I want it to open the same size I saved it as. It doesn't. It opens offset from the left and top and it opens smaller. No matter how I resize it and move it the next sheet I open does the same thing. When I shut down and restart Excel remembers nothing.

Why? How do I fix this?"
