Word 2013 forgets printer settings

Interesting work around. 

I also have the same issue as the OP.  Not sure why the moderators don't have the same issue (is odd that none of them do). I have a letter to print on letterhead and it use to save the print options in previous versions of Word, but not in 2013. I was hoping there was a solution. Guess not. I really prefer Quick Print.

Not a solution but a work-around I find useful (Win 7, Microsoft Office Pro 2013) is to set up multiple instances of the same printer with different names and different properties (Eg: auto color/B&W, duplex vs. no duplex). It still requires selecting the correct printer for the document each time it is opened, but it's better than having to reset each characteristic every time.

As long as you are still in the same Word session, I would expect printer settings to be preserved. In other words, for Word to revert to the default printer (and its default settings), you have to exit and restart Word. Closing a single document won't suffice.

Just to insure my reply about XP & word 2003 (not a VM) and 7 & Word 2013 are clear . .  I am closing and restarting MS-Word.   As for trying different printers, yes I've done this with different printers and printer drivers.

Others have reported that Word 2013 behaves differently from older versions with regards to printer settings. I haven't seen this myself.

I have Word 2003 on a laptop (no VM) and Word 2013 on my workstation.  In Word 2003 the printer settings start out as the default, BUT when if I:

1. Change the printer and/or a setting and
2. Save the document

when I reopen the document again (at a later time) the settings from step 1 (above), come right back and do not default to the default printer.

This is not true for 2013, which when ever I reopen a document (regardless of the previous printer setting / properties at save time) is set always to the default printer.

Again no VM here, just Windows 7 and Windows XP SP 3.

I also would love Word 2013 to work as well (if not better than) Word 2003.  MS-Word should not be taking steps backward, but going forward.

This is a bug and needs to be part of normal Word 2013 bug fixing during 2014, please and thank you.
