Word 2013 forgets printer settings

Interesting.

However it turns out that if you save your document after making changes to the printer settings before printing, it will actually save the settings.  I discovered this by accident while experimenting with any possible solution I could come up with.

So the solution is, save after making changes to the printer settings.

I haven't tried it in word yet, however in excel 2013 I have to manually set the printer settings every time to black ink only.  I have my default printer set to "black ink only" and it appears that excel decides that it is going to use the "original" default printer settings anyway.  Changes to the printer settings in excel are not saved.

Color ink is expensive so the rule is don't use color ink unless absolutely required.  In previous versions of office this could be set on the person's computer by changing the "printer preferences" for the printer in question.  Now that no longer works.

Is there a fix or not?

Please don't SHOUT. If this was working before, it must have been that there was a macro in the document or document template that printed the document using those specific printer settings. I assure you that it has never been possible to set printer Properties for a specific document in Word. This is possible in Publisher, which, incidentally, is probably a better application for creating brochures.

MARTYN YOU ARE NOT GOING CRAZY I HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!

I ALSO HAVE BEEN USING WORD SINCE IT BEGAN, I USE IT FOR OVER 10 HOURS A DAY AND IT DID USE TO SAVE DOCUMENT PRINT SETTINGS.

I HAVE THE SAME DOCUMENT I USE EVERY 3 MONTHS AND IS SET TO PRINT AS A BROCHURE AND THE SETTINGS ARE QUITE TRICKY, IN THE PAST WE HAVE NOT HAD TO WORRY ABOUT THE MANY HUNDREDS OF THIS DOCUMENT WE PRINT AS ONCE THE SETTINGS WERE ALL SET UP AS WE PRINT ON THE FLOOR ABOVE OUR OFFICE WE KNOW ITS OK TO DO ADDITIONAL PRINTS.  HOWEVER SINCE WE WENT ONTO WINDOWS 2013 1 MONTH AGO WE HAVE TO SET ALL THE PRINT (DOUBLE SIDED, BROCHURE, GLOSSY PAPER, PRINT A3) EVERY SINGLE TIME WE OPEN THE FILE.

ALSO, IM NOT HERE TO DEBATE THIS AND DONT WANT TO GET ANYONES BACKS UP BUT IT REALLY DID DO IT BEFORE AND I ONLY FOUND THIS PAGE AS I TOO WAS SEARCHING FOR A SOLUTION BEFORE I LOSE THE WILL TO LIVE (THERE ARE A LOT OF STAIRS BETWEEN MY DESK AND THE PRINTER)
