In past versions I would set the printer settings for a document and it would remember it so reprints default to the last used settings. How do I set Word 2013 to do the same?
In particular I like to use double sided printing.

If the printer driver is installed on a server, that is where changes must be done.
I had the options changed at the server level and finally I can print single sided.
It only works for the one time printing. It doesn't save for future printing. I shouldn't have to go in each time and change to print single sided or double sided.
Hi, I have yet another idea. I was having the same problems, and, after slogging through the 7 pages of this post, I accidentally found out what happened to my printing preferences on my work computer.
The printing preferences were actually changed at the shared printer, and it over-rides my local default settings every time. Unfortunately, I don't have the access to change them now that some clown has changed them. It doesn't help much for me, but if you're having the same problem, that's where to start for the solution.
No, I'm afraid you're mistaken. Word retains (some) settings in the Print dialog (notably the choice of an active printer and its properties) during a given Word session, but restarting Word resets everything to the Windows defaults. I've been using Word since Word for Windows 2.0, and this has always been the case.
No...you are mistaken. I was always able to set the setting to print one side...close the document and open the document and that setting was still set to print one side. Can't do that anymore and it is a pain in the neck.
