Word 2013 forgets printer settings

Hi All,

I have exactly the same problem and the one thing that stands out from reading these posts is that others too have highlighted the issue.

Now, the guys at Microsoft can sit in their ivory tower and lecture their customers on how wrong they are that they should ever have believed this useful feature was something that MS actually provided in word, or they could suck it up, listen to their customers, and add the damn feature!

Is that such a revolutionary idea?

Through this thread I learned that Quick Print in 2013 sticks with the printer's actual settings, though. I also learned I could go through Printers,  default printer,  and reset it there,  so this thread was still very helpful and I have resolved my issue, just not how I was expecting to, so thanks to everyone who had something to say on the topic.

Actually, Quick Print works just exactly the same way as FilePrintDefault in previous versions: it uses the currently applied settings. If you mouse over the Quick Print button, you will see the printer name. If you open the backstage to the Print tab (Ctrl+P) and change the printer, then close the backstage (without printing), you will see, when you mouse over the Quick Print button, that it shows the other printer you selected. It will also use some other settings you've chosen (such as duplexing) but not the number of copies, page range, or other specific choices.

When you quit Word, both Print and Quick Print default back to the default printer settings set in the printer Properties through the Printers folder.

Are you keeping Word open? Word has always reset to the default printer settings on startup, so if you close Word when you close the document, then start it again with another document, it will be reset each time.

I have to agree with Martyn.  I have Word 2010 and Word 2013.  Have no problem once I change my settings on Word 2010.  As long as you click apply and OK as you exit out of the settings, they are retained until you change them again.l  2013 does not allow you to do this and it is quite a pain to have to change my printer settings every time I print.  The settings on the actual printer are correct; however, Word 2013 seems to override these settings and goes with a Word default.

Interesting work around. 

I also have the same issue as the OP.  Not sure why the moderators don't have the same issue (is odd that none of them do). I have a letter to print on letterhead and it use to save the print options in previous versions of Word, but not in 2013. I was hoping there was a solution. Guess not. I really prefer Quick Print.
