I use OneNote and Evernote together. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. Evernote is much better at clipping articles, for example. But OneNote is much better at managing information.
The Powertoy sorting tool is manual. You have to re-run it periodically. Also, it's not 100% compatible with OneNote 2016/365. It works, it doesn't damage data, but it does trigger OneNote into a "cleanup" routine when you relaunch it, indicating some data somewhere is dirty.
Does this utility work automatically in real time in the background (alleviating the need to manually re-sort like Onetastic appears to require)? If yes, does the sorting persist upon restarting OneNote or when moving back from another notebook? I need something that maintains alpha-sorting when notes are added/edited, when I restart OneNote, when moving from section/notebook to section/notebook, etc. Auto-alpha-sorting is practically the last hurdle I need to overcome/accept in fully abandoning Evernote.
No, this sort utility does not work in the background. It is a standalone utility that sorts on demand, when the user tells it to by clicking a button. I don't know of any way to do what you want in OneNote..

I'm in the same boat as everyone else, very strange that this simple feature is still not available in 2016 version.
I think it would be great and helpful if everybody actually send in suggestion to Microsoft through the program.
This might help our case and show up on their radar if they get enough people sending the same suggestion.
Personally i dont like to be dependent on third-party apps/plugins since they can break or even cause unexpected issues so i rather see a native solution for this. Also i use OneNote now on my PC/MAC/phones where third-party isn't a long term solution.
