why the fonts in word 2013 are blurry?

rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible! 

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

    Sadly, there is nothing you can do about the font rendering in IE 10 or Office 2013.  For some reason that makes sense to only them (remember, this is the same company that got rid of the Start Button because they "claim" no one ever used it), MS changed their font rendering in their latest releases and fonts basically just look awful on a larger screen.

    gdipp (http://code.google.com/p/gdipp/) normally improves this dramatically with it's own apple-like font smoothing algorithm, but at this point it does not work with IE 10 or Office 2013.

    So basically if you want Office 2013 or IE 10 on a large monitor you are going to have awful looking pixelated fonts. 

    Another new product from MS's "Department Of Breaking Stuff That Worked and Everyone Loved".

    I figured it out right before reading your answer! Checking the option "use subpixel positioning..." also didn't work for me, but then i saw the "disable hardware graphics acceleration", checked it and finally worked! What a mess! Almost freaked out here, because i'm working on my term paper and it's impossible to imagine myself with a dysfunctional microsoft word at the moment!

    Video display cards have become powerful computers in their own right. They are very specialized computers, to do massive "parallel processing".  For example, hackers have built password cracking computers that use several consumer class video cards. For a cost of a few thousand dollars (or less!), these video card devices can do what tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of "normal" computers cannot do, fast "brute force" hacks of passwords.

    So, if you have more than a simple built in "video chip", ie a 3rd party video card, on your computer, most of the time it is sitting idle. Computer builders and software writers have learned how to move certain calculations originally done on the main CPU chip over to the video card because these cards can do the calculations faster and it also frees up the CPU to do other more suitable calculations.
