rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible!

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

Office 2013 does not support clear-type.  Microsoft has toggled the clear-type switch to OFF without even telling the developers of Office and outlookpuntcom.  a fine and applaudable technology is abandoned.  Notice the default font is set to Calibri in these latest programs online and rich client installed and even in outlookpuntcom email composer.  The best We can do now is change default to non_clear-type usage (maybe stick with true-type for Visio) and steer windows system settings away from clear-type rendering that we have appreciated while it lasted.

clear-type rendering just takes too long in determining the background color [esp. in 3d plus/ or animated application.]  Rohn; the Windows Next yes is interactive live tiles, a buncha phone windows.  You will love it.

Greetings.  I tried this but the font display is horrific in Word 2013.  Is there any add-in program that can assist with the font displayed in Word 2013.  I have tried everything!

    Thank you!

    Maria

    You could try MacType

    https://code.google.com/p/mactype/

    or gdipp

    https://code.google.com/p/gdipp/

However, I didn't have much luck with them because they are not aimed at Office 2013 specifically.

There are no "addins" that I am aware of to fix this problem.

Exactly what "everything" have you tried???

The problem is that changes to Office 2013/Word 2013 can interact badly with Win 8 / 8.1 and new hardware. Apparently there are a couple of possible fixes.  Take a look at the links I posted in a reply on page 5 of this discussion for other possible fixes.
