why the fonts in word 2013 are blurry?

rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible! 

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

    Read this article, it explains  why Windows 8.x and  Office 2013/365 Looks different: 

    "Office 2013 has undergone a substantial shift to a relatively new display facility, Direct2D, and a new text facility, DirectWrite. These are the display facilities that are used on Windows Phone 8, the new Windows RT slates, and optionally on Windows 7 & 8. Up through Office 2010, the Windows Graphics Device Interface (GDI) and complex script support by Uniscribe were used."

    Thanks for the help, it was the "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" that was the problem.

    Thanks for trying Dr. Geek - that's a shame you've not got a spare copy.  I'll have a look through the forums to see if I can find anyone running Office 2010 in Windows 8.1.  If you're feeling adventurous and have the time I wonder if Open Office equiv of word would look clear in Windows 8.1?  Guess I'm just wondering if it's a system wide problem in Win 8.1, or if you can largely avoid it.  But not to worry if you don't fancy trying that, and I may well plump for a Win 7 machine anyway, as not sure I wanna go through the additional learning curve of Win 8.1.  Though the blurry font seems the main problem!
