rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible!

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

Dont try to cover your errors Mr Robbins. And try to be smart. I think you should change your computers to new ones, with a large screen. Im having a 27inch Lenovo A730 and as you say if there's something wrong with the PC you should blame Lenovo. What can you tell me if i tell you this? I open the same word file in this same PC with Office 2013 and Office 2010 and if there's a massive difference in the font clarity. if you cant see it then that should be due to your age.... and sight problem in which case you have to change your EYES instead of my PC's graphic card......

Open these files separately, enlarge and see the difference.....

"If the text can be 'sharp' when you are in the footer why can't it remain so when you are working on the main page?"

Because -obviously- this product is utterly broken in itself. No Matter the operating system used, be it 7,8,8.1 or the 10 preview. Microsoft has issued Gigabytes Patches for Office 2013 since release and still the fonts are driving me mad.Updating Graphic Drivers and OS , nothing fixed it.

I have reverted back to the 2007 and 2010 versions of Office. Problem solved.

Let's hope for Office 2015 which is now in the making.

    Hi,

The strange thing about the blurry fonts in Word 2013 is that when I am working on a Word document on my Windows 7 PC and go into the footer the text above, that you are not then working on, becomes clear!!

When you come out of the footer and go back onto the page above the text reverts back to looking like you have written it with a pen that is running out of ink!

If the text can be 'sharp' when you are in the footer why can't it remain so when you are working on the main page?

    Dear Doug,

You saved me from going absolutely insane. Thank you for your help. Don't understand why with the army of engineers M. has, they're not making Office 13 easier and more intuitive to use. Lost 3 hours dealing with error messages while trying to install the softwarre, before being helped by a technician, and configuring Word to a display that won't make me cringe.

    Sigh.

    All is well.
