We are talking about monocrome vs color clear-type, no graphic cards or other stuff. Excel 2013 have color clear-type, Word 2013 have monocrome. While 2003 version of Wor have color clear-type too. Taht version I use now, so I can tell. Percieved sharpness
is better with color clear-type on my DELL IPS 23'' and other LCD screens. Difference it is less visible on high dpi screens like smartphones.
