rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible!

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

I have stuck with 2013 now it is loaded I was tempted to revert back to 2010 but it would have been yet more expense.   I find the bluriness of text in Word is a constant irritation and so I find 2013 to be a downgrade, despite many of the other nice little improvements. I have now given up trying fixes and just live with the blur.

I guess this problem is not affecting many other people otherwise it would be seen as a big problem for Microsoft and there would be more interest in trying to find a robust solution rather than downplaying it, "I dont see the blur",  providing confident 'this will fix it' tweaks or blaming it on other software, though no doubt many of these work for many people most of the time.

I ran into the same problem, and found that if I turned off dpi scaling the fonts immediately looked sharp and crisp. For a full explanation with screenshots see: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/blurry-fonts-poor-display-scaling-office-2013

hafsahaz, what exactly did you do to get a good resolution.  I have followed many of the steps and still have blur - after a year.  Some of the options are too complex for my brain but I've worked with all the settings in File - Options - Advanced and anything else I can find in Display settings.  Running Windows 8 Outlook 2013 new ASUS laptop last year.  Really unhappy.  Thanks.
