Word keeps randomly switching to draft view when I have track changes on.

In Word 2010, if I am editing a document with Track Changes on in Print Layout view, it will randomly switch to Draft view, opening the comments pane (instead of having comments bubbles in Print Layout view). This is an annoying bug since I prefer the arrangement of information in Print Layout view compared to Draft view. Is there a way to prevent this automatic switching while still having Track Changes on?

    I'm delighted he replied because when I searched for this annoying bug it popped up straight away. Only just started happening to me and hopefully deactivating instant formatting EN X5 will help...

    Specifically, the switching to draft view or the jumping to previous paragraphs happens when you stay idle within a comment you add in track changes. It does not happen when I stay idle in the text document itself.

    Would be great if Microsoft could indeed solve this problem.

    You have replied to a very old thread. Which version of Word are you using?

    Are you running EndNote as other posters in this thread? In that case, you need to make sure it is fully updated. Alternatively, try disabling the "Cite while you write" function and see if that overcomes the problem.

    Note that it is usually better to create a brand new question thread (use the Ask the Community link at the top of the forums page). That way, your question will get more attention.

    That's not helpful if you need to use Endnote and Track Changes at the same time. Turning off formatting isn't an option.

    I have this exact problem with Word 2010, Endnote x5 and a document with complex chapters, cross references and endnotes.

    After reading this I tried this:

    Endnote tab on ribbon.

    Click on arrow at Bibliography bottom right

    Instant Formatting tab

    Settings...

    Uncheck Scan for temporary citations

    Seems to be working so far :)

    I had to uncheck the whole "Enable instant formatting...." option for the bug to dissapear, it was not enough to uncheck the "temporary citations" option (Office 2010, Endnote X5)
