Visio 2013 VERY slow

I upgraded to Visio 2013. I am using the standard detailed networking template. After adding a few items, Visio has gotten so slow its almost unusable. WWhen I move icons it takes 3-5 seconds to give me back control. ITS terrible. I have a Thinkpad T510 with a system score of 6.9's across the board and one 4.9, so I highly doubt its that. All other applications scream. I tried disabling hardware accelleration and updating my video driver which did nothing.

Like visio 2013, but sad the performance is so bad...any suggestions?

    Well.. let's go another way:

    I changed it a little from original.

    1. I don't use Visio for any other purpose than for creation of network diagrams, so I can't say whether this issue is related to whole Visio or only network diagrams. Yes, there is a lot of custom shapes. What's problem? In Visio 2010 same shapes worked fine.
    2. There is no any custom solutions/addons running.
    3. No theme is applied on the drawing.
    4. Office x86 installed on x64 win8, tried any possible combination - office x32/x64 win7/8 x32/x64

    I agree!  VISIO 2013 is almost too slow and unresponsive to use.  It brings my i7-2860QM CPU with 32 GB of RAM to its knees.  It seems like a memory issue as very little ever gets used.  I have Win-8 64-bit.

    I completely agree that the performace of MS Visio 2013 is horrible. I have 3 different machines and the one with Visio  2010 (Dell E6400 4Gb ram Core 2 Duo Win 7 32 bit)  is able to open the same Diagram and show no signs of lag or freezing. As soon as I go back to my i7, 16Gb RAM, 256 SSD Win 7 64 bit  machine the Diagram pretty much kills my computer. Only reason i keep 2013 because is lets me see the thumbnails of the visio diagram while I search for diagrams in explorer. I have tons of diagrams and searching with 2010 installed wont let you view thumb nail of the diagram. This means I have to open each one which can take a while to load.

    PLEASE CREATE A HOTFIX.. For the LOVE OF GOD!!!!!

    I am speaking up to say I am also experiencing extreme slowness when trying to zoom in and zoom out. Parts of the visio page don't load and takes several seconds to render.

    Visio 2013 x86 was super slow on a Dell Vostro machine running Windows 7 Professional x64. After a series of troubleshooting, I traced the problem to the accelerated graphics. Just disable the it. Here's how: Go to Visio Options > Advanced, scroll down you should see "Disable hardware graphics acceleration". Check the square box. This issue is most noticeably on machine with dual video chip set. See picture below:
