Visio 2013 VERY slow

I just got Vision 2013 and put it on 2 computers.

On BOTH it is running crazy slow. And to replicate:

 - Open Visio

 - Click on Cross-Functional Flowchart

then try and do anything. Just slow. I'm going back to 2010

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I had visio drawings I created with 2010 and after uninstalling Visio 2010 and installing 2013, my system came to a screeching halt with performance. Moving images around with the mouse key is taking FOREVER and even zooming in and out takes 20-30 seconds just to focus. It's painfully slow and I'm seriously considering uninstalling and going back to 2010.

I can confirm there is no difference with SP1. I've uninstalled 2013 and installed 2010 instead + Visio 2013 Viewer + Visio Compatibility pack. Grrr!

I installed SP1 for Visio 2013 and there is no difference in performance.  This "blurring" effect is a ridiculous time-waster.  Is there anyone from MS on this thread that can ask development if they will disable this "feature".  They may think it looks cool, but when it takes me 3-5 seconds to work on a drawing after zooming in or out or moving up/down or side to side, it really shows a lack of sense on what would be best for the customers.  I have a laptop with an experience index of 7.3 using SSD SED drives, it's not a hardware performance issue here MS.

I have been experiencing the same issue.  It's quite maddening.  :-)

I recently upgraded Visio (and Office) from 2010 to 2013.

I have a large-ish (7.5MB) Visio .vsdx document, originally created with Visio 2010, with several dozen worksheets/pages in it.  Only graph/math/general shapes, nothing meta or scripty.

Previously the document would open in about 1-2 seconds.  After updating to Visio 2013, the same document takes (runs a quick test) 31 seconds to fully load.  Specifically, I can view the initial page very quickly (less than 1 second), but if I access any other page, I must wait for at least half a minute (during which it shows a "Loading Document Data" progress bar which never moves).

Even after the document is "fully loaded", it sometimes takes several seconds to page from worksheet to sheet within the document (previously instantaneous - I know because I use this as a presentation technique).  In order to truly load and view the entire document, if I start paging through it, it appears to now take well over 2 minutes.

Once loaded, Visio shows a memory footprint of 1.09 GB in Task Manager.  I don't believe that was the case before, but alas I don't have comparison data.

The computer hardware, OS, and drivers are unchanged from previous.  The slowdown was immediately present as soon as I ran Visio again after IT upgraded my Office and Visio to 2013. 

My computer's specs are:

• Dell Alienware M18XR2
• CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM, 4 hardware / 8 logical cores @ 2.40 GHz
• OS: 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate
• RAM: 32 GB
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M
• Disk: dual striped (RAID 0 style) symmetric solid-state (SSD) drives, lots of empty space

Note that normally this computer is crazy-fast at just about everything.

Let me know if I can/should send you any files (DxDiag info or .vsdx document) for reproduction.

EDIT: I tried the above suggestion (disabling hardware acceleration in Visio's Advanced Options), but there appeared to be no change.

EDIT: I am running vanilla Visio Professional 2013 with no add-ins, etc.

EDIT: I also experience the extreme slowness other users have reported in terms of zooming in and out, etc.  Was previously instantaneous, now takes several seconds and is quite disruptive to workflow.  The problem persists even after disabling Transitions from the Options menu.

EDIT: For context, like several other posters, I am a long-time advanced Visio (and Windows) user who has used every major version of the app since before it was originally acquired by Microsoft.
