stdole32.tlb in Excel

I tried this but it did not work.  I am using Windows 10.  Now I am unable to delete the protocol sub key.  I was going to try to uninstall recent updates (Sep 20, 2017) to Office 2017 which probably caused this problem.  But because of this sub key I am unable to uninstall the recent Office 2017 updates.  I was going to try to uninstall Office 2017, but because of this new sub key I am unable to do so.

Important: Ensure to back-up the registry before changing the registry keys:

·         Go to Run (press Windows+R key on the keyboard simultaneously) and type regedit

·         Navigate to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Excel.Chart.8

·         Right Click on key and select Permissions

·         In the Permission windows > click on Add tab and add Everyone

·         Once this is done, click on the Advanced tab > Owner > highlight Everyone > click on Apply and Ok

·         In the Permission > select Everyone > enable the check box for Full Control and Read then click on Apply and Ok

·         Click on F5 to refresh, this should create a new Sub key below Excel.Chart.8 called Protocol > right click on the key and repeat step 3 – 5.

·         Refresh again and follow the same sequence of steps to add permission to the following Sub keys StdFileEditing >Server.

·         Close the registry editor.

I did but the problem still happend

There's a quick and easy way round this problem (though not a solution):  open Excel in Safe Mode.  Just hold down the Ctrl key while you click on Excel, a window will immediately pop us asking if you want to open in Safe Mode, click yes and you're in.  Remember to keep holding down Ctrl until you are in.

I ran into this issue on my wife's laptop running Windows 10, with Office 2007. After much searching, manually setting permissions in the registry, and multiple restarts,  I found this solution:

• Uninstalled O-2007 using Add/Remove Programs as usual
• Downloaded the "easy fix" tool for (o15-ctrremove.diagcab)
• Ran the tool
• Restarted Windows (again :( - thankfully the last time needed)
• Reinstalled Office

Voila - everything is back to normal :)

Of course, this assumes you have the installation media to be able to do this.
