stdole32.tlb in Excel

I am running Windows 8, and I have just reinstalled Office 2007.  When I open Excel, I get a screen that shows stdole32.tlb and then office goes on to configure.  This happens each time I open up Excel.  How do I stop this?  I don't have the regedit function, that I used to have with prior versions of windows.

In addition to Chip's suggestions you may also follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:

Try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps resolve the issue:

Important: Ensure to back-up the registry before changing the registry keys:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

·         Go to Run (press Windows+R key on the keyboard simultaneously) and type regedit

·         Navigate to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Excel.Chart.8

·         Right Click on key and select Permissions

·         In the Permission windows > click on Add tab and add Everyone

·         Once this is done, click on the Advanced tab > Owner > highlight Everyone > click on Apply and Ok

·         In the Permission > select Everyone > enable the check box for Full Control and Read then click on Apply and Ok

·         Click on F5 to refresh, this should create a new Sub key below Excel.Chart.8 called Protocol > right click on the key and repeat step 3 – 5.

·         Refresh again and follow the same sequence of steps to add permission to the following Sub keys StdFileEditing >Server.

·         Close the registry editor.

    I believe that Microsoft should be looking after EXISTING customers who are using their products and not just try to get us to switch to the latest product.  At some point we might switch but with this kind of support, I might be tempted to look elsewhere.  After I switched to Windows 10 on my Toshiba laptop, all my office products worked fine.  It's only now, that I've bought a new HP laptop, that Windows 10 is saying they have to 'configure my Word, Excel, or PP.  I hope Microsoft is reading this and ask them to consider letting us with Office 2007 operate with Windows 10 unhindered.

    Yes, I believe Microsoft could furnish a software fix. But why should they. They want us to purchase / rent the latest version of office.  Since I have had that and could not get it to work, why do I want it?

    It would be nice if they would do the software fix, but I don't think it will happen.

    I have just experienced the same message, stdole32.tlb, when starting Excel and Word 2007 in Windows 10.  Rather than have us inexperienced nerds fooling around with the registers, can't Microsoft come up with a software fix????

    Well, after the issues of windows 10 update on dell inspiron laptop that doesn't seem to be supported by windows  10, ie lost wifi ability to connect although dells utility could show routers but win10 couldn't? I did a clean install of win10 from an ISO.  that meant I lost the digital licencse code or whatever that apparently had come with the free upgrade. 

    Luckily (I guess) I found the dell windows 7 disc.  now I've reinstalled win7, reinstalled office7, and some other bits and pieces. Luckily had files etc. saved to external drive.

    Hopefully Norton will protect me from the big bad wolf.

    The install I tried of Linux Mint also failed to complete, the web is rife with issues regarding that.

    Luckily still got that fountain pen and stationary......Oh yeah wait a minute mr. postman.

    Why are we worried about robots?   only if the OS hasn't been programmed with Asimov's rules, how could that possibly happen??!!

    Is that windows 11 I see looming.......

    as backwards compatibility and a common architecture doesn't really work, time to rethink the whole pc issue. I guess I've been reminiscing about all the equipment I've binned due to 'upgrades' and unsupported printers, scannners, changed connectors, scsi, usb, blah blah blah.

    Cynical.......moi?
