stdole32.tlb in Excel

I am running Windows 8, and I have just reinstalled Office 2007.  When I open Excel, I get a screen that shows stdole32.tlb and then office goes on to configure.  This happens each time I open up Excel.  How do I stop this?  I don't have the regedit function, that I used to have with prior versions of windows.

In addition to Chip's suggestions you may also follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:

Try the steps mentioned below and check if it helps resolve the issue:

Important: Ensure to back-up the registry before changing the registry keys:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Back-up-the-registry

·         Go to Run (press Windows+R key on the keyboard simultaneously) and type regedit

·         Navigate to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Excel.Chart.8

·         Right Click on key and select Permissions

·         In the Permission windows > click on Add tab and add Everyone

·         Once this is done, click on the Advanced tab > Owner > highlight Everyone > click on Apply and Ok

·         In the Permission > select Everyone > enable the check box for Full Control and Read then click on Apply and Ok

·         Click on F5 to refresh, this should create a new Sub key below Excel.Chart.8 called Protocol > right click on the key and repeat step 3 – 5.

·         Refresh again and follow the same sequence of steps to add permission to the following Sub keys StdFileEditing >Server.

·         Close the registry editor.

    re: slowing down

    in file explorer enter %temp% in the address bar

    press {ctrl}+A in file window

    press {shift}+{del}

    confirm all deltetions, click on check boxes when they appear

    You should end up with only a few files left

    repeat with %tmp%, should give same result but doesn't always

    go to c:\windows\temp

    repeat

    some files won't delete as their live this session, but it should improve speed quite a bit

    worth creating a batch file to delete all these locations on each startup

    Thanks for supportive comment,  after failed attempts to edit registry to get it working I uninstalled and reinstalled, even that took a couple of attempts.

    I don't think Microsoft are doing themselves any favours with their marketing attitude.  Linux is looking more attractive day by day.

    Windows 10  started out by being faster opening up but whether its my imagination or not, it seems to get slower with every update.

    Better stock up on stationary and refill the fountain pen,   buy some stamps  and get prepared for IT Armageddon, where's that old address book?

    I found the instructions as clear as mud,  not clear what steps 3-5 are, couldn't find the sub key mentioned

    not sure which window i should be in.

    You should consider that the person reading the instructions  isn't as familiar with registry as you might be

    This problem just started happening to me one day. I'm running Office 2007 and Windows 10. I tried every solution on here, and every solution on Google. Nothing worked. Then I wondered if the problem was caused by a Microsoft Office update. Guess what? The problem went away after I uninstalled the most recent update. Give it a try! It's certainly quicker than reinstalling the whole of Office...
