How to display margins in Word 2013

The "layout engine" was totally revamped for Word 2013. The change in text boundaries was an unintended (indeed, unforeseen) consequence.

Thanks. The injury to the feature being an accident makes far more sense than the almost 20 year old feature being an accident.

Problem is, it appears to be getting worse. In 2013, one could get the 20-year old text boundary feature by the simple expedient of saving the document in compatibility mode. At least in the current preview build, that is no longer possible in 2016.

I've been a Office customizer since I was brought into the MS world because my company went to Windows 95 and Office. First thing I did was rewrite my large collection of WordPerfect Macros into Word's language and have expanded on personal features ever since, even customizing the Ribbon to add the most frequently used ones. This destruction of the Word feature I use most, coupled with the Outlook "Could not complete the operation because the service provider does not support it" inability to handle Google Apps accounts along with imap ones has me, for the first time, seriously contemplating a change.

I sympathize. I'm actually still using Word 2003 for production work, though I don't mind using Word 2010 when I have to (it has a lot of features I quite like and often wish I had in in 2003). Word 2007 was half-baked, and Word 2013 is an abomination on many fronts.

There really are not that may features in 2013 I would put in the "abomination" category :) (Word 2003 was my favorite version also) and I know people who took to the Ribbon like ducks to water. As much as I hated it when it first showed up, my wife loved it.

But what I have also found when neighbors look to me for help, especially upgrading older XP platforms with older versions of Word, is that they prefer the more used-to interface of options like LibreOffice. 

Ah well.

The text boundaries are a deal-breaker for me, but another feature that was removed without an adequate or satisfactory replacement was the browse arrows at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar. I really like the Navigation Pane for some kinds of searches (not to mention navigation), but it's a barrier to more advanced searches (this is true in Word 2010, too, of course). I usually end up starting a search with Ctrl+H (to open the Replace dialog) so that I have all the options more easily accessible.
