How to display margins in Word 2013

The 'text Boundaries' in Word 2010 were exactly what was needed, however 'accidental'.

I discovered text boundaries pretty early on in my use of MS-Word. I liked it so much I wrote a macro to toggle it on and off from the toolbar. Still use it, although now the feature has been ruined. The date on that macro? 06/01/1998. Yep, the "2010 accident" has existed at least for the past seventeen years.

No one is claiming that the accident is recent or limited to Word 2010. It was there in all previous versions AFAIK. The re-writing of the layout generation engine for Word 2013 changed this structure.

You are really willing to accept the "accident" characterization?

MS "accidentally" put a feature in the earliest versions of Word, "accidentally" made the feature accessible through the menus, and "accidentally" wrote macro language which they re-wrote as VBA code to access it. And then, finally, realizing their mistake, "repaired" it 20 years later?

Can't help but notice your signature block (me too). That's a heck of a defense! :D

I think I can characterize it a wee bit differently. More like, they wrote a feature that people used for years and then accidentally trashed it and are unable to fix it. Problem with that is, as mentioned earlier, the feature is still usable in 2013/385 by using compatibility mode; that's "accidentally" gone in the 2016 preview.

Yes, I'm willing to accept the story that this was an accidental side effect, one they didn't notice that people actually used. My understanding is that the people who write the programming for Word don't use the program.

I tend to agree it was an accident, or oversight.  It is hard to believe the programming for Office 2013 was totally new.  A few tweaks but 2007 and 2010 are not much different than 2013.

It is not unusual for programmers and engineers to not use a word processor.  They really have little use for Word, or most other MS Office Products.

We are really lucky they work as well as they do.  Wish they would listen at least to this "error in judgement" and fix text boundaries.

If enough ask, there is hope.  The wheel that squeaks the most, gets grease!  KEEP SQUEAKING!!!!!

The "layout engine" was totally revamped for Word 2013. The change in text boundaries was an unintended (indeed, unforeseen) consequence.
