I really like the Navigation Pane for some kinds of searches (not to mention navigation), but it's a barrier to more advanced searches (this is true in Word 2010, too, of course). I usually end up starting a search with
Ctrl+H (to open the Replace dialog) so that I have all the options more easily accessible.
Suzanne, I'm surprised you are still using CTL H to call up the old Find dialog (by way of Replace). I thought you had heard of the tip to reassign CTL F back to the traditional Find dialog. I too have no use for the stripped down find available in the
Nav Pane (and I too keep the nav pane open in my documents 99% of the time)

I added my vote to your suggestion. I see that it has been marked as under review by the Word team! Cudos! This is the first time I've seen this notation on any suggestion. I have my fingers crossed.
