Excel cell turns black whilst entering data

Hi,

There's a document that's used by some people in the office and whenever they try to enter data into it the cell turns black while they're doing it and they can't see what they've typed until they click off it. These documents are something to do with Sage and not something they've created and if they make a new sheet within them they can edit cells without issue. I'm sure it's just some setting somewhere but could someone please enlighten me as to what it might be?

Thanks

Microsoft has an update on this issue (that is not available for download) here:

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Fill-cell-formatting-does-not-render-correctly-after-adding-a-header-in-Page-Layout-view-in-Excel-2016-57bbd912-9723-4324-87c7-baf3e577c015?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

but IT DOES NOT WORK!!!! (you can not download it)

On affected user PC I tried to install office update to version Version 1708 (Build 8431.2094) - but it tells me that I am on the newest version available ( the users is on Version 1708 (Build 8431.2079)

I assume that the fix does not work and they pulled it off their site.

This changes nothing.  I've tried all the above "fixes", and no matter what it still puts all colors in as black.

This recently happened to us also, but we noticed that it is only affecting users with a Dell P2717H monitor - and the problem has to do with page layout view and having a header and footer.  Users with a larger monitor (like the Dell U3415W) the document works fine.

On users with the affected monitor, the document will work correctly if:

    1. you use Normal view, not Page Layout.
    2. you remove the header and footer, and leave the document in Page Layout view
    3. We noticed that when we did a remote session to the PC (so it wasn't using the default resolution) the file would function well also.

It seems to be an issue with rendering for our 27" monitors, that was caused by a recent Microsoft Update - but when you check the link given above it says the issue is resolved with the latest update.  We currently have build 8201.2193, and are experiencing the issue - so it still exists.

    Hope this helps someone else.

Fill cell formatting does not render correctly after adding a header in Page Layout view in Excel 2016

    Applies To:  Excel 2016

    Last updated: September 27, 2017

    ISSUE

When in Page Layout view, applying a fill formatting such as a pattern style to a cell or table does not render correctly after adding a header or a footer to the spreadsheet. You may see a black background or other formatting issues.

This issue impacts Version 1708 (Build 8431.2079).

    STATUS: WORKAROUND

We are currently working on a fix. In the meantime, you can remove the header and or the footer from the spreadsheet for the fill formatting to render correctly.
