office 2013 cannot open word files

I have upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 and now I am unable to open .doc files with word 2013 preview. I have uninstalled and installed again but have yet to figure it out.Any help would be great.

Hi Anee,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. As per the issue description you are unable to open only.DOC file from Word 2013.

I would need more information to assist you with the issue:

  1. Are you able to open files saved in .DOCX format?
  2. The files that you are unable to open, are these files created on the system or did you download these files from internet or emails?

Follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:

·         Open Word document.

·         Click on File< Options< Trust Center< Trust Center Settings< Protected View

·         Under Protected View group uncheck all the three options.

·         Click Ok twice. Close and open any Word document and check if it works fine.

    Even by doing this word is not opening at all. A blue pop up appears which states starting and the bubbles keeps moving from one end to another. This is only problem with Word, rest everything works fine.

    Can you please help me out with this?

    In Windows Explorer or File Explorer (depending upon your version of Windows), right click on one of the Excel files and select Open with and then select and set Excel 2013 as the default application for opening such files.

    Of course, there is nothing wrong with using File>Open and then selecting the file that you want to open.  That's all that I ever do.

    After the up-gradation of Ms office 2007 to 2013 , my old excel files are unable to open directly(I have to open through file open then file name ) pls suggest me some solution on this issue
