Why can't I save my Word 07 docs as PDF files anymore

Hi Folks,

I've just found that I no longer can save my Word docs as a PDF file using the "Save as" option. Each time I try I get "File could not be found". I've ran the 'Diagnostics/Repair in MS tools and also followed that with placing my DVD back in the machine and choosing "Repair".

In both cases, it failed. I have Windows 7 64bit and MS Office 2007 Standard I've been running both for about 3 years. I also tried reinstalling Adobe Reader.

There is a strange thing I should mention: When I ran my DVD this last time in an attempt to repair this problem, The window opened identifying itself as the Office 2007 Standard "Trial" !!! So I opened a word doc, went to "Word Options" and then through the several clicks until I got to the "About" window.

Incredibly, it identified me as the registered owner of Office 2007 Standard but the key number it shows is way different than the key number I saved with my DVD I purchased. I'm going to have to uninstall this program if I can't get that Word to PDF option working.

I was able to convert in the past but i can't remember the last time I did.

    Office 2007 doesnt natively have the ability to create pdf files (Office 2010 does) it relies on a plug-in

    Well I can tell you for a absolute fact, that my other two computers are also Windows 7 64bit Home Prem and they both have Office Home & Student 2007.

    They both can save a Word doc as a PDF. Neither have the MS SaveasPDF patch in the Uninstall Programs list however I always keep my computers updated. I suppose one of the MS .Net updates may have that program imbedded but as I said, that patch is not in the Programs list as an individual patch.

    But that still doesn't change the fact that the computer I'm on now, (which used to be able to save as a PDF), no longer can save a Word doc as a PDF and that patch made no difference.

     So I think arguing about whether or not MS Office can convert to PDF is not a productive discussion given the facts in my case.

    If the other PC's had/have this ability it was as a result of some third party software or plug-in been installed.

    Plug-ins do not neccessarily show under Programs & Features, but within the individual Office program.

    If you seek any further info, re-post to the Office/Word specific group

    I don't know why you're dwelling on this point. They can convert to PDF, period. I never sought out and installed a third party software to do this and ALL 3 computers have that capability.

    The only explanation for this is that Windows included a 'saveaspdf' patch in one of their updates, (no mystery or surprise),so that’s all there's to that point.

    Now knowing this, why would I have recently lost that ability on the one computer I use most often? Could it be a hidden virus? If not, (or even if so), is it possible to run a Windows Repair option without losing my other installed files?

    That's what I need to know. Everything else that evolved from this in this topic is incidental.

    I dwell on the point because Office 2007 has no native capability to print to pdf

    I also suggested that you repost to the Office/word specific group and not this generic Programs group

    Obviously, because if someone's trying to get help from you, they've got a long wait and will find themselves in a pointless argument having NOTHING to do with any sort of help in the problem.
