Word 2013 slow typing

Hi Folks,

I am using Word 2013 that comes with my Office 365. I regularly paste photos into cells in a word document template that I use every day, and then write a description in a neighboring cell. It is saved in the most recent word format.

Just recently the display of the text when typing is veryyyyy slow showing up when typing after pasting the picture/s. I have used the Office 365 for 6 months or more before this issue cropped up. This issue has just started in last week or so. No hardware or driver issues on computer, and I have tried a system restore to a date prior to the problem with no results. I use Windows 7 Professional, service pack 1. Plenty of RAM, and a large 480 GB solid state hard drive for the C drive.

The weird thing is, if I save the document in the older format (word 97-2003) the program works fine, but that is not a good long term solution for numerous reasons. I have tried the disabling the hardware acceleration as suggested in other blogs, but that did not resolve the issue. I have also tried increasing the virtual memory, which did not help either. Getting ready to jump out a window, hope someone has a suggestion that works. Getting ready to go back to office 2010. Don't like the Outlook 2013 preview pane limited view of the body of the email issue, and this latest issue makes me crazy with all the time I have burned up on it...

    Nayana- was there ever a solution to this problem? I have the exact same one in a word doc with a table and photos.

    Ditto.  I've created an architectural punch list with text and images in a lengthy table and I have wasted hours today while I constantly wait for it to regenerate or God knows what. It never crashes; it just sits there and then eventually scrolls and shows images.  I can't understand what the problem is. I'm not going to mess around with my registry to fix this.

    I have tried this on three high-powered computers by now.

    As far as my experience goes, none of the suggestions in this string have worked to resolve the issue I originally raised. I have tried them all without success. An updated 2003, or 2010 word document to the new word format (which previously has cells embedded in same) still does the same thing, which is; 

    after pasting photo/s into the pre-sized cells, (which I use to automatically re-size the photos to a specific size)  the typing speed in other adjacent cell (used for a description) is verrrry slow. You wait for the letters to scroll out.

    Prior to pasting a photo into the same document, the scroll out of the text is normal. Paste one or more photos into the document, and all the other cells have slow scroll out of the photos? I am still hopeful Mircosoft some day will address it!

    Yep have been doing battle with this obvious bug for some months now and the Microsoft new thumb-sucker programmers have not picked up on it yet let along found a solution.  I have a distinct feeling that all the good programmers must have retired 5 years ago but probably just getting old and grumpy with the 'new' version of the software that seem to work about as well as your average shopping trolley these days.

    Anyway the only work around I've found to this really annoying bug is not view any images (especially if embedded in a table) and the the typing speed seems to be OK.  So essentially anytime you wish to type scrunch up the view so you do not see the images.  The other option is to not put any images into your document until you have finished editing all the words. Not ideal but that is what you seem to get for you upgrade money these days.

    I am using windows 7, office 2013. I also had the problem that word reacted incredibly slow to typing, and the second solution ("alternate, related") you offer here worked very well for me.

    I too, as does the OP, have a standard template that I insert pictures or screenshots into, and then things get slow.

    ...and, what really grated me today, just as I'm trying to get a report out, MS tech staff (cough!) told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that such a thing could not happen; that no-one has reported this issue!

    When I told the guy it was splashed all over the internet, and in their own MS community forums, he got all shirty with me. Yip, it would seem they DO employ a lot of temperamental teenager script kiddies that get all upset the moment you tell them their work ain't up to the job; this last comment substantiated by the fact that all they were prepared to do was offer me a refund on the package and that I were to go and buy Office 2010 from somewhere else - but when asked why they could not exchange the 2013 key for a 2010 key, well, "sorry, we only sell the latest junk".

    Sigh!
