Word 2013 slow typing

1. Does the issue occur with specific document or with all the Word 2013 documents?
2. If it’s with specific document then what is the size of the file?

If the issue occurs with specific file then recreate the file and verify the status.

If the issue occurs with all the documents then open Word in application safe mode and verify the status.

To open Word in application safe mode: Click Start > in ‘Search’ bar >type 'winword /safe' (Without the quotes and note the space in the command)

Thanks for your response.

It occurs with a document that has a group of cells in-bedded in same that I paste photos and text into.

It is a template i have used for years with no difficulties,and have updated to the new versions along the way, but making a new template is quite a bit of work so I have not done that yet. I have tried using a backup copy of the file and that did not work right either so I presumed it was not a corrupted file.

It does not help to run it in safe mode.

The file is 99KB to start with. I paste 250-450kb pictures into a cell which automatically re-sizes the picture. I do it that way since there is no way to set the default size of pictures pasted into a document, and i need to fit 2 to a page and the resizing process takes quite a bit of time.

The lagging starts as soon as i past (1) photo into document.

I tried the automated fixit on the link and that did not work as well.

Any thoughts..

Dear Nayana,

One other thought, this starting happening about a week ago, after my Office 365 updated itself.

The thing is, if I take out the cell where the picture is pasted and "auto re-sized" and paste the picture in the word document without it sitting inside a cell/table, and manually re-size every picture (since there is no default setting for the picture size when pasting them in a document (that would be a nice feature Microsoft!!), the issue goes away. The issue seems to be some change made recently that changes the way the program/document deals with photos inside a cell/table.

The irony is, if I save the same document back into the 97-2003 word format, it works just fine. It is also not one document, since i have similar (other word documents) documents that have similar formatted photo pages with the table/cells embedded in them, and they all do the same thing now.

The word document I use that has space for 5-15 pictures to be pasted in, and then a cell below each to give a description of each photo)  Take out the table/cell that I paste the picture in, and the slow problem goes away, but then I lose the auto re-sizing of the pictures.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am not aware of any changes made recently, though common user like me here dont see changes unless reported.

Can you provide a link to the template  and post the exact steps you are taking to recreate the issue.

Another thing to try is turning off the new Office 2013 "annimation" feature. If it was turned off before, it may have been "accidentally" turned back on by the Windows Updates (since MS "knows" whats best for us ... <grin>)

Rubber band effect, delayed Response time when typing – Disable Animation feature

In Office 2013 MS added a funky new UI feature called “Animation”. It is supposed to “smooth out”, or some such nonsense, cursor movement in the applications. I first noticed it in Excel 2013. I found it so annoying that that “feature” alone was enough to completely turn me off from using the whole Office 2013 bundle. Fortunately, or not (?), I found these fixes.

Alternate, related solution

I'm using Windows 8, and found a different solution there:

• Using the search-word "edit", I found "Edit system environment variables".
• That took me to the "System Properties" screen.
• Under "Performance" I selected "Settings", which brought up the "Performance Settings" screen.
• I deselected the "Animate controls and elements inside Windows" option.
• After restarting the computer, I brought up Excell, and it was totally fixed.
