Word 2013 slow typing

Hi Folks,

I am using Word 2013 that comes with my Office 365. I regularly paste photos into cells in a word document template that I use every day, and then write a description in a neighboring cell. It is saved in the most recent word format.

Just recently the display of the text when typing is veryyyyy slow showing up when typing after pasting the picture/s. I have used the Office 365 for 6 months or more before this issue cropped up. This issue has just started in last week or so. No hardware or driver issues on computer, and I have tried a system restore to a date prior to the problem with no results. I use Windows 7 Professional, service pack 1. Plenty of RAM, and a large 480 GB solid state hard drive for the C drive.

The weird thing is, if I save the document in the older format (word 97-2003) the program works fine, but that is not a good long term solution for numerous reasons. I have tried the disabling the hardware acceleration as suggested in other blogs, but that did not resolve the issue. I have also tried increasing the virtual memory, which did not help either. Getting ready to jump out a window, hope someone has a suggestion that works. Getting ready to go back to office 2010. Don't like the Outlook 2013 preview pane limited view of the body of the email issue, and this latest issue makes me crazy with all the time I have burned up on it...

    Hi,

    it occurs e.g. with a file with barely 1 page, no images of anything except LETTERS, total of 2801 characters, no formatting .. . . . . . .

    all updates are installed, system is legal 8.1, hardware is latest

    Can you in MS invent some way simply to type fast?

    (though I am very slow in typing I am not content with Office 365)

    well I'm back to square one. Turning off wireless worked for a bit yesterday, but I'm back to lagging again. I am not saving to OneDrive though. My initial file is on a network server in my office. I have also tried saving it to my desktop. I also want to include that this can be replicated on another Win 7 machine as well as my Win 8. There are 2 office versions - I have an Office 365 Business account with full desktop install, the other machines are desktop install only.

    The problem appears to becoming more pandemic but no solution as yet.  I've taken to saving my file as a new document each day I do the editing and that helps somewhat as long as the document is less than about 40 pages.  For a larger documents I break each chapter into a separate document then used reference documents to build the table of contents.  The airplane model solution does not work for me either and is not realistic when connected to a business network

    That worked fine until a recent upgrade seems to have broken this facility as well.  I suspect they had the work experience kids in doing the programming over the last few releases?  Any please feel free to share your frustrations - I'm ever hopeful that some start-up will have a crack at Microsoft and come up with a business product that can be used for solid reporting - the amount of functionality in word for making pretty fonts and so on that I don't use is probably what is bogging it down as a business tool.  

    What word needs is a 'turn of all irrelevant stuff I don't use that has been developed in the last five years' page and I sure the problems would go away.

    Completely agree.  My intent connection is just fine. Happens no matter what Internet I am connected to.

    As suggested  above, only thing that has worked for me is putting it in airplane mode or turning off WiFi.  Another is just saving it to the desktop or anywhere but one drive. I hate to do this but it is the only way I can make it stop. No other suggestions have worked. Seems like they need  a major fix so one drive can actually be used like it was intended. Drives me nuts!  You said it though, if is painfully slow  and frustrating. Try taking notes to a professor that speaks a mile a minute!
