Word 2013 slow typing

Hi Folks,

I am using Word 2013 that comes with my Office 365. I regularly paste photos into cells in a word document template that I use every day, and then write a description in a neighboring cell. It is saved in the most recent word format.

Just recently the display of the text when typing is veryyyyy slow showing up when typing after pasting the picture/s. I have used the Office 365 for 6 months or more before this issue cropped up. This issue has just started in last week or so. No hardware or driver issues on computer, and I have tried a system restore to a date prior to the problem with no results. I use Windows 7 Professional, service pack 1. Plenty of RAM, and a large 480 GB solid state hard drive for the C drive.

The weird thing is, if I save the document in the older format (word 97-2003) the program works fine, but that is not a good long term solution for numerous reasons. I have tried the disabling the hardware acceleration as suggested in other blogs, but that did not resolve the issue. I have also tried increasing the virtual memory, which did not help either. Getting ready to jump out a window, hope someone has a suggestion that works. Getting ready to go back to office 2010. Don't like the Outlook 2013 preview pane limited view of the body of the email issue, and this latest issue makes me crazy with all the time I have burned up on it...

    thanks Tom,

       I too use the table and photo very often.  since I am using the surface Pro 3, and using 365 pro, I had people from MS store exam the problem and there was no luck.   I had called the MS office team and worked remotely on my computer and there was no result as well.

    I was having the same issue as you for the longest time, I was lead to believe the issue was my hardware driver. (a new surface pro 3?  really???) following your comment, I try saving the file in word 97-2003 format and find out that the issue was not longer visible. so, the problem is really in word.

    however, by saving it in different format works for me and I can now work reasonably. so, why bother upgrade?

    The slow typing for me depends on which page of the document is being edited.  One page has the lag, and 2 pages later the typing is snappy.  The performance monitor shows that the first CPU is used more when the typing is slow.  This is repeatable.  If no one responds to this post, the next step will be resource monitor.

    Sluggish response in my office 2013 Word document editing was due to using the navigation pane only. I use navigation pane often since I typically work on large documents. Once I turned off the navigation pane, response is as expected. No other settings or features caused this poor response in Word 2013 because I tried them all! This "fix" proved to work on all my installs and a colleague's office 2013 install.

    I understand file behaviour with OneDrive, SSD or HDD - but this time file was saved in centuries old method - in desktop folder with no synching.

    Now you will say had you saved it in cloud it would be faster ...

    Where is the file located?  On the local drive or in the cloud?  If on the local drive, is it "synched" with a folder in the cloud?
