Remember "Show tabs" setting in OneNote ribbon?

I have a question regarding permanently showing the ribbon tabs in full screen mode. In Office 2013, going into full screen mode means that everything is hidden, except for a very short horizontal bar across the top of the screen. To access anything on the ribbon, I have to click on this bar to show the ribbon first. If I want to pin the ribbon so that tabs are visible at all times in full screen mode, I have to click on this bar, click a menu button near the minimize button (also hidden in full screen), and then click Show Tabs. However, OneNote does not remember this setting. Thus, every time I exit full screen mode or restart OneNote and then reenter full screen mode, I have to re-pin the ribbon again.

How do I get OneNote to remember this setting permanently? It worked in OneNote 2010.

Hey all! OneNote engineer here :)

Update: This has been fixed in all standard Office 365 deployments with build 7766.2060. Simply update to enjoy!

Starting with Version 1701 Build 7766.2029 and later (see File=>Accounts to check your build number) OneNote 2016 O365 will remember any changes you make to the full screen mode ribbon settings both during and between sessions.

As of 1/30/2017 this is deployed to Insiders Fast and will be making its way to "Current Channel" production on 2/14. If you want this change now you can switch to "Insiders Fast" and you can switch back and fourth fairly easily.

    Another vote for this feature. An obvious must if you've actually used Onenote 2016 with a stylus.

    I agree with all with all of the earlier posters that this is a longstanding annoying problem and I wish Microsoft would fix it.

    I've entered a OneNote 2016 feedback on this issue.  (go into the OneNote main menu and click "feedback")

    if you would like to upvote the feedback entry I think/hope you can find it by searching for this string: "ribbon 6b257762".  

    maybe if we get enough upvotes Microsoft will escalate it.

    I figured out a bit of a workaround. You can map the hide/show ribbon command to a keyboard shortcut. That at least makes it a lot easier to get the toolbar back in full view mode.

    It works pretty well. I got it assigned to a hotkey, and then assigned the hotkey to a hardware button (volume up) on my tablet. So now, when i switch orientations, I just hit volume up and the quick access toolbar reappears.

    This sounds useful, but which keyboard shortcut are you talking about? I could not find one that would display the ribbon (or just the quick access toolbar, which is what I really want) from withing full view mode.

    It's a little bit of a hack. There is no keyboard shortcut for that command. But the all of the commands on the quick access toolbar have automatically built in shortcuts. That is, if you press the ALT key, then each of the icons on the quick access toolbar gets highlighted with a number.  And you can modify both the composition and the order of the commands on the quick access toolbar. So, what I did was to assign the "hide the ribbon" toggle to the number 5 slot in the quick access toolbar. Then, I mapped the volume up button on my tablet to Alt-5. Whenever I press the volume up key, it triggers the toolbar to hide (if it is visible) or to reappear (when it is hidden).

    Replying to an old post in this thread, just to say that it's a great workaround! I took one further step of linking the Alt keystroke to a gesture in TouchMe Gesture Studio, so now I just have to do a 2-finger tip-tap to bring the ribbon back. Thanks again to the original poster!

    Microsoft, it's COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS that you haven't fixed this yet. And you wonder why people tolerate Microsoft and LOVE Apple? Yeesh.
