You need to start the application in "safe mode". You can refer to the following article (
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-word/word-2013-not-starting-right/7c6eeac1-639d-401c-a4b8-d415a6cb3ddd ), but here are the terribly complicated steps from the article :) :)
- Open the Run Command by hovering the mouse near the Start Button (Windows Key + R) -> Click on Search and type
RUN.
- Type winword /safe (leave a space after winword) -> Click OK.
When I typed RUN, I had to browse and find the MSOffice 2013 folder, and then scroll down to find the application. The folder was C: --> Program Files --> Micorsoft Office 15 --> root --> office15.
Here are the steps I followed from the same article:
Step 1:
If you are able to work with Word without any problem then the issue might be due to add-ins. Follow the steps below in order to disable the Add-Ins from Word 2013:
- Open Word in safe mode.
- Click on File -> Options -> Add-ins.
- Under Manage select -> COM Add-ins.
- Click on GO options beside Manage, uncheck all the add-ins and click Ok.
Try to open Word and check if it works fine.
Try to open Word and check if it works fine.
"Manage" is at the bottom of the Options box that comes up, and make sure yoou choose the COM Add-ins. As I said, the add-in that was causing me grief was the LABBY Findereader add-in. I unchecked it, closed Word, then reopened it normally and I was good
to go.
The same steps apply to Excel.
The article goes into other options if this does not work for you, but since it worked for me, I didn't have to bother reading any more. Hope this helps.
