None of these steps worked for me. I finally gave up and called the toll free number FOR THE 12TH TIME ALREADY! Always to verify install they want to know how machines this has been installed on. I always reply with the same answer, ZERO. And why do we need to register this in our Live account. All I want to do is install it and forget it. What's the use of providing a product key if we need to use a Live account to activate it? I've installed almost 40 of these so far this year and at least 30 percent of them fail the activation or need to be activated again after joining them to a domain. Simplicity, that's all we ask for.

I think you are supposed to get to the place in the start/Programs menu that you can see the individual components of Office, like Word, Excel, etc., and then right click on one of the programs, select "run as administrator" and all works fine. And, indeed, the new Office suite is actually kind of nice. BUT it is should be embarrassing for Microsoft to be so incompetent in fixing a major flaw which interferes with people buying one of their biggest moneymakers. However, they have been this way since the beginning -- making a program or a process intuitive is just not something they seem to be concerned with -- see early versions of Excel for example. As a related gripe, just buying Office 365 in the first place is a big pain, all kinds of things to fill out, nothing intuitive. They should hire a few people from Amazon! Dave Anderson.

The answer for anybody like me is to search from the Start button and when the office program (Word, Excel, ...) shows up as a result of the search, right click on that)
