Office 2013 Word Keeps Freezing (Not responding)

Hi,

I have just purchased Office 2013 and have used Word for a couple of minutes, but it repeatedly stops responding in specific scenarios.

It is far too buggy for me to migrate from my previous version of Office.

Situations in which it freezes:

  • Opening the options menu
  • On start up (when it claims that it is not the default program) - I fixed this one by making it the default program for everything
  • Closing the word document and choosing not to save
  • Scrolling through a very long document

Excel does not seem to have the same bugs, and I have successfully reached the options page on that program to turn off graphics acceleration.

The main reason I purchased Office 2013 was for Word and I would really like to have it functioning properly.

I am currently very disappointed and annoyed.

Other (possibly) relevant details

Platform: Windows 7

Other

Microsoft Office 2003

Microsoft 2010 Starter (pre-installed on laptop purchase)

Thanks for the help.

    We are facing following problems.

    1. First of all software response is very much slow.
    2. Excel and Outlook crashes frequently.
    3. When the office application opens it consumes maximum memory and other applications won't work.

Machine specs is good like : Core I5, 64 bit, 8 Gb Ram

Sorry, I didn't ever really get a clear fix on this for my home PC. I actually went back to 2010 in frustration but over the holiday I got myself a new laptop with Win8.1 on it as my old one was aging anyway. With the semester starting on Monday, I'll be giving it one more go but with 2010 at the ready to install-))

However, we have been doing some test deployments at work for some users and are finding people run into similar issues. A resolution to this has been to update the following registry settings:

(make sure to always save (export) a copy of your registry before altering)

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\

    "DisableHardwareAcceleration"=

    "DisableAnimations"=dword:

mine also does this. also it happens when I come off word and go onto the internet. So if I am in the middle of a piece of work and then have to look something up it will close down. Very Frustrating.

I just spent over one hour working on a document and saving periodically.  On the last save, it froze and when I opened my document, nothing had been saved from my last work session.  The recovery document was not up to date meaning it was missing more than 10 minutes of work.  What do you suggest?  I looked at add-ins and the disabling hardware acceleration.  Since it only does this off and on, I couldn't replicate the problem in safe mode.  Like 1234j8, I believe my problem occurred after going to the Internet and then coming back into the document.  Guess I won't do that again!  Any ideas?
