Office 2013 Word Keeps Freezing (Not responding)

**Disable hardware graphics acceleration"**does not work for me.

I have been using the office 2013 before Win 10. And for the last two years or so (after Win10）it has been

working fine until very recently (about 3 weeks ago). It keeps lagging when typing. It becomes much worse when I input Chinese. It freezes for 3-20   sec every 30 sec or so. very very distrupting. So I strongly suspect this

is related to Win 10 updating. I have tried several tips from this discussion. But so far none works.

worked for me:

● uncheck office animation + graphics acceleration

● open the docx in libre-office save as docx, in the confirmation popup, select "save as xml format" (it ll detach your template, you'll just need to attach it again in MSword. You'll also only need to rearrange the style pan under home tab)

⚠ first you have to identifie if the pb comes from MS word or from your .docx. To do that check if the docx is freezing on safe mode. If not MS word is ok (MS word isn't corrupted, but possible conflicts).

● If MS word is not ok, uninstalling (use the clean removal tool, to be shure to remove everything).

● in any case removed all plugin, (I deleted plugin registry keys if needed).

advice :

● for large docs: work in draft view (much quicker)

conclusion: in my case the problem did come from a style or some code attach to the files (maybe when copied past fro the web, or a buggy style feature from MS word). For large doc, it might be usefull to use libre office

You did not say what version of Office you were using before you installed Windows 10.  Did you actually do a fresh installation of Windows 10 or simply allow Windows 10 to update your operating system.  If you did the latter (update) your original Office software would remained on your computer, and may still be available on it as the upgrade to Windows 10 does NOT remove applications from your computer.

saving it to your computer and then running it.

Then reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

BEFORE REMOVING THE OFFICE INSTALLATION,  MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT AND THAT OFFICE IS ASSOCIATED WITH IT!

I endured endless problems simply installing Office 16: the installer hung for hours.  Solution was to restart the computer and discover the installation was in fact complete.  How the heck do you guys manage to mess up a simple installation process that thousands of other software vendors seem to have no difficulty with?

Now my problem with Word 16 is that I can't open the 'options' menu without the program freezing.  In your response you blame countless other third party software for problems.  Has it ever occurred to you that Microsoft software has simply become far too complicated for its own good?  You suggest "From the File tab, select Options and then click on Advanced and then in the Display section of the dialog, check the box for Disable hardware graphics acceleration" I can't get the bloody options menu to open without freezing!

I was forced into Office 16 because I stupidly installed Windows 10, not realizing half my Adobe software wouldn't run under the new OS.  The reversion to Windows 7 went badly and left me having to install Office 16 because that's the version my employer now offers for home use.  Please will Microsoft ever learn (a) if it ain't broke don't fix it and (b) your endless 'upgrades' of Office merely create problems for users so your already dreadful reputation stinks even further than before?

Sorry to be very backward looking, but I still use Office 2003 (!) and it operates perfectly.

A relation of mine has the newest version, and it's driving him crazy - Word keeps freezing, and nobody seems to be able to fix it.

I'm staying off the newest version, and I'm not looking forward to W10; I bought a new PC with W10, and it lost data from two programs and refused to let me in to BT mail. The PC went back for a refund.
