Cannot play video from YouTube through PowerPoint 2013

Just tried to "insert" a video from YouTube using two methods: by pasting the "old embed code" and through the YouTube app. When I try to play the video I receive the following error, "To play the selected item, you must install a later version of the Adobe Flash Player. To download the Adobe Flash Player, go to the Adobe website."

The thing is, I have the latest version of flash installed (11.6.602.180). I am running Windows 8 (64-bit). Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it just me?

We have been hard at work to bring back support for YouTube videos to PowerPoint. We are happy to share that we are now bringing back support for inserting and playing back YouTube videos in PowerPoint 2010 and PowerPoint 2013 with the latest updates.

    I finally got the thing to work (as of July 24, 2013) by pasting the Old Embed Code and then modifying it as follows:

    per the steps above I changed the 'version=3' to 'version=2' (two places)

    I also added HTTP: in front of //www.youtube.com..... (two places)

    I haven't tried this with PowerPoint 2013, but it worked on a Win7 machine with PowerPoint 2010.

    Anyway, worth a shot.

    Just tried this as well, and it worked (Win 7, PPT 2010).   I have a whole pile of videos embedded into powerpoint to show at class this fall, i have a long night of updating ahead of me.  Thanks, Google.
