Cannot play video from YouTube through PowerPoint 2013

Just tried to "insert" a video from YouTube using two methods: by pasting the "old embed code" and through the YouTube app. When I try to play the video I receive the following error, "To play the selected item, you must install a later version of the Adobe Flash Player. To download the Adobe Flash Player, go to the Adobe website."

The thing is, I have the latest version of flash installed (11.6.602.180). I am running Windows 8 (64-bit). Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it just me?

Hi All,

We have been hard at work to bring back support for YouTube videos to PowerPoint. We are happy to share that we are now bringing back support for inserting and playing back YouTube videos in PowerPoint 2010 and PowerPoint 2013 with the latest updates.

In order to be ready you need to install the following updates listed for your PowerPoint:

    Hi All,

    Because of changes with the video embed codes we can no longer support playing back YouTube videos within PowerPoint 2013. We are investigating solutions that will restore this functionality.

    We are aware of a number of problems regarding embedding online videos in PowerPoint presentations.

    · Customers using PowerPoint 2013 are finding that the Insert Video dialog box does not include the option to embed online videos. You can learn more about the problem in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2873189.

    · Customers using PowerPoint 2010 are finding that they can no longer use YouTube embed code to embed YouTube videos in PowerPoint presentations, and that a workaround that was available prior to the September 2013 update (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2553145) is no longer available. This problem is documented in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880293.

    In both cases, we are investigating possible solutions to the problems and will provide more information as it becomes available.

    Hi John,

    I did eventually get the pptalchemy program to work for me. Here's the constraint: if I copied the code from IE10 -- the version with Windows 8 -- it wouldn't work. If I copy it from IE 9 or Chrome, it works.
