Unable to open Word 2013 Error: Word has stopped Working.

Original Title: $140 for ****!

I have purchased Office Home & Student 2013 and it installed perfectly fine. Yet, when I go to Word and try open a blank document out pops a box stating Microsoft Word has stopped working and I will be notified IF there is a fix. WTH! I cannot use the dang program. PLEASE help!!

    Doug, I Love You. I have been arguing with word for 3 days now. Turns out it was the Abbyy fine reader which I can only assume was installed from my Epsom  printer disk. Everything is working fine now. Thank you so much.

    Thank you very much Mahurin. It worked as soon as I removed "Abby Fine Reader".

    I tried lot of steps but could not fix. Your artical helped me.

    and, if necessary http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2822317

    If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

    and after saving it to your computer, run it, and then reinstall Office by logging into www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

    Do you have Abbyy Finereader installed on the PC? A number of people have reported that removing it overcomes problems with 2013

    I'm using Microsoft Office 2013 on the windows 8.1 platform.  It had worked on windows 8 previously. Got the 8.1 update and word did not work (ERROR: Word has stopped working). I removed the 'Abbyy Finereader', as suggested, and word started to again work. Thank you!

    I went to Add-ins but I was confused about what to do from then. There was nothing there to enable or disable anything.
